Men Kept As Slaves In Indonesia: 'We Were Tricked Into Work'

BERANDA ACEH - The slaves held captive in cages and are allegedly forced to work for free for the fishing industry, which sells fish to the United States.

The slaves living in extreme conditions, where they are beaten up, being forced to work for free, being threatened with death and even killed.

That is just some of the accusations made by the recognized international news agency AP, which for years has studied the fishing industry in Indonesia.

AP has interviewed more than 40 fishermen who are or have been slaves on a remote island in Indonesia.

Here the major fishing companies allegedly created an industry that is based on the use of modern slavery.

A large proportion of the fish caught, sold to customers in the United States. (jp)
